Ryan Reynolds has reason to rejoice as his Free Guy for Disney’s 20th Century Studios managed to rake in over $51 million at the box office worldwide and beat predictions.
The film has raked in over $28.4 million in the United States, with the potential to continue to achieve good results over the next few weeks, especially as it has not yet opened in major markets such as Spain or Brazil. However, unlike Cruella or Jungle Cruise, Free Guy did not debut simultaneously on Disney+, Disney’s streaming service.
The result of Free Guy seems to have got Disney so excited that on August 14th Reynolds confirmed that the company has already shown its interest in a sequel. For now, Reynolds is focused on promoting the current film, but he’s certainly already thinking about what he’s going to do next, and the world can watch Free Guy knowing there’s more to come.
The Suicide Squad took the total at the box office to $118.1 million after a 50% drop in revenue outside the US. Still, outside the US, the Warner Bros. film. and DC has garnered more than $75.2 million of that total revenue.
